Lifting Up Mental Performance- Introducing Jon!

Greetings everyone! My name is Jon Gillette and I am excited to join the Reaching Ahead team as an Intern!  I look forward to learning from and with my fellow intern Vadim and assisting Dr. Herzog with marketing, internet presence, and group workshops with teams from around the area.  Let me tell you a little bit about me…

I am a 2x national champion collegiate cheerleader, turned strength coach. A lifetime of sport involvement as well as many injuries led me to pursue a career in athletics and more specifically performance enhancement and recovery.  After finishing a degree in biomechanics and movement science, I worked with athletes at a number of Division 1 universities as a strength and conditioning professional, including the University of Delaware, Villanova University, and Seton Hall university.

Spending a lifetime in martial arts, I have always had a fascination in eastern philosophy and the combination of both mental and physical training in performance.  This fascination and an understanding of my own mental shortcomings, developed into a desire to return to school and expand my abilities as a coach to include mental performance.

This past Spring, I graduated with a Master’s degree in Sport and Exercise Psychology from Seton Hall University.  I am excited to continue my education with Dr. Herzog as I am beginning to work toward my Certification in Mental Performance Coaching.  With his background in various human performance venues including the military, high school, and Olympic sports, it was a no brainer for me to come and learn from Dr. Herzog as I start out my career.  In the future I hope to obtain a Doctorate degree in Psychology and continue to provide both mental and physical performance enhancement to athletes in both a college setting and the military.
